A sure sign of a worn rim is uneven grooves in the side of the rim, cracks in the rim or where the rim has worn down until it is very thin and prone to breaking. Replace rims regularly if you ride alot of miles. Safety is paramount! A good rim can increase your braking ability astronomically and can reduce the likelihood of buckling.
